ROMANO EARNS NASCAR ROOKIE OF THE YEAR HONOR

ATHERTON, CALIFORNIA (November 22, 2010) – 20 year-old Nik Romano was recognized for a successful rookie season in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Modifieds when he was awarded All American Speedway “Rookie of the Year” at the 2010 awards banquet on Saturday night.

Romano won the award on the strength of two features victories against one of the toughest fields of cars in the entire NASCAR Whelen All-American Series.  The 2009 USAC Ford Focus Midget champion fought through adversity early in the season to take home a well-deserved fourth place finish in the 2010 standings.

The “Rookie of the Year” battle came down to Romano and Ron Sutton’s Winner’s Circle teammate Josh Brock.  Brock, out of Corbin, KY, placed higher in the points at third, and had one win in the 2010 season.

Winning the award was just another accomplishment to add to the outstanding first full season for the RSWC Modified team.  Based in Sacramento, Calif., the team put up dramatic results including the three victories at Roseville along with a win for Joey Licata, Jr. at Stockton 99 Speedway and a top-five Stockton points effort for Aaron Higgins.  All four drivers were rookies in the NASCAR Modified division.

At the banquet, Romano acknowledged his teammate Josh Brock and told the audience that the award should be shared between both drivers.

“I could not be prouder of Nik and the entire RSWC Modified team,” driver coach Ron Sutton.  “This truly was the great first full season of our NASCAR Modified program and I know that each of these drivers are on their way to big things for 2011!”

Romano got a head start for his 2011 program as he competed in a NASCAR Late Model race for High Point Racing at TOYOTA Speedway a few weeks ago.  Romano is scheduled to campaign the full 2011 calendar for team owner Tim Huddleson at one of America’s top short track facilities.
